We brought these kitten home one Christmas from the rescue centre, the little female, Susie had suffered a broken leg by her cruel owner, Sam was two weeks older and had looked after her like her was her brother so they had to be homed together. It wasn't like having normal kittens because they spent all of their time under an old sideboard in the dining room because they were so frightened. With three kids and a baby in the house I suppose it wasn't surprising, but after the children were in bed the kittens would come out to play and Sam would allow me to stroke him but Susie was still very nervous. This is the night that we brought them home in a cardboard box.

Then this is them a few weeks on when they had a little more confidence to come out into the room.

Susie is the one in the front.
At the end of their lives I watched them both die very painful deaths, I took Sam to the vets and he was put to sleep, it was such a relief to see him out of his pain. Later susie became ill then I came downstairs one morning to find she had died.  I think after their bad start they had a happy life with us but they were always very nervous and afraid of men.

They look quite content in that last Pic Em  Grin

It's good that they were lucky enough to find a good home
after their bad start in life.  Wink

They are beautiful Emily. That is so great that you gave them a real home where they didn't have to endure any more abuse.

Those were beautiful cats Emily. What a wonderful thing you did by adopting them. I wish more people would look to the shelters for their animals. So many need a good home.

I couldn't resist showing off my two cats, their mother was a stray. They are older now, this was taken just about a year ago.

Haha One of them in your sig pic is looking rather suspiciously at you Don.

I think what puts some people off getting animals from shelters is that
they can't be sure if they'll end up with an animal that has 'behaviour'
problems.

Hi Carer,
He hee, that is oreo, he's such a fraidy cat. He even scares himself sometimes. Yea, I can see that side of it. It's just a shame we have to destroy so many.  Angry

This is our daughter Kittyjoe. I do not recall ever loving an animal so much in my life.  It even feels strange to call her an animal as she has become so much a member of our family. It's like having a child that never grows up and leaves home.  She is just wonderful. I know children often ask if there pets will be in heaven with them and I like to think that kittyjoe will always be with us also. God must love us to have created a little creature that we can all just coddle and love all we want. I tell Rick all the time that she's just like a stuffed animal except she's real.
Your story Emily is just tragic but in a way had a happy ending because at least when they passed away they knew they were safe and loved.  God Bless you for saving them from any more harm before they went.
