PictureofWorldMap.net

Welcome to the forum for the Picture of World Map site.

Where you will find any kind of a picture of world map that you might be looking for. You'll also find interesting  links and friendly world tours where you'll find out about people and places all over the world.

Children learn what the adults around them value. When a child grows up around maps and globes they learn to organize and increase their perception of the world they are growing up in. When they hear of world events on the news they will have a much deeper intellectual picture of the places, peoples and cultures that they are hearing about and will be able to discuss intelligently the events taking place with maturity and understanding in relation to the what, where, and why of the things that are taking place. Knowing about the weather, climate, physical formations of a place, crops, and people will help them in tomorrow's world with their businesses and jobs. They will have greater knowledge of the global marketplace and the people they will be interacting with as communication and travel enable us to use the whole world as our platform for growth. Some day our global address might be as important as our home address is now. To find our global address we need to use longitude and latitude.

Longitude measures the distance east and west of the prime meridian, an imaginary line running between the North Pole and the South Pole through Greenwich, England. Latitude tells us how far north or south we are from the equator. Where these two lines intersects the degrees will tell us our global address.

A map Legend tells you what the symbols or colors on the map stand for, like a star for a Capital, or a dot for a major city. A size scale guide for miles or kilometers, blue for water that shows lakes, rivers, oceans Green for flatlands, grass, or forest, Brown for mountains or mountain ranges.

Kinds of Maps: political, physical, relief, population, climate, weather, forecast maps

Political Maps are made up from man-made boundaries. People decide where the boundaries will divide the land, this can be an imaginary line or people can use a natural formation to divide the land like a river or mountain. The capital of a state or country, major cities, roads, rivers, or lakes are also shown on political maps.

Physical and Relief maps show the natural or physical formations of a state or country. They may also show types of trees or other vegetation in an area on the map.

Population maps show the population density in different areas on a map, Check the map legend to see the number of people per square mile in different color sections of a population map.

Climate maps, Weather Maps, or Forecast Maps can show the average temperature , rainfall and snowfall per year or for a certain month. They can also show desert, rain forest, or icy tundra.
People adjust to their environment to better suit their needs and improve their way of life. They use their natural resources and their history reflects the reason they settled there to begin with and how they live. How they use their resources will determine their futures.

Today I added a second game page to Picture of World Map site.

http://www.pictureofworldmap.net/Games_More_Traveler_IQ_Challenges_.htm

I called it More Traveler IQ Challenges because I also added a Traveler Quiz to the Virtual Map page along with the other games. It gives you a picture of a famous place and then you have to place a flag on where in the world you think that picture was taken.

The second game page has 4 more Learning games.

World places interactive quiz

World Capitals quiz

Flags of the World quiz

More World Sites quiz

All five of these learning games has you place a flag where you think the place is then shows you with another flag where it really is and tells you how close you were. If your within 50 kilometers then your doing pretty good and you get a lot of points. If you are off by 10,000 kilometers it asks you if you know your on earth and gives you few points. Each game has many levels, you have to get a certain amount of points before you can advance to the next level. It tests your traveler IQ the first time you take it. If your like me and keep trying then you eventually learn where these places are so that you can advance to the next level.

I think it's a fun way to learn your way around the world and see where different places are in relation to other places in the world. Give it a try and see what your traveler IQ is, then try it again and improve your traveler IQ in a fun way.
